Valley of Kings
Personal homage to Mummies Alive!
Early in 2020, we were asked to create an Egyptian-themed game for our new engine, featuring a cascading reel mechanic where exploding bricks would add to the visual excitement.
To kick off the project, I drew inspiration from one of my childhood cartoons, Mummies Alive! I always try to incorporate elements of inspiration into my work (and now the secret’s out!). I started by sketching the guardian characters, which our 2D artist then brought to life digitally with fantastic results. I was thrilled with how they turned out.
To further enhance the theme, I researched the real Valley of the Gates of the Kings Museum in Egypt, the resting place of ancient pharaohs. Based on this research, I sketched a reel layout inspired by the museum’s architecture. Our 3D artist then used this as a foundation to model the entire background, beautifully capturing the essence of both the interior and exterior of the museum.
