Sky Jewels

In 2019, our team was tasked with creating a bejeweled-inspired slot game with a classic, clean aesthetic. This resulted in Sky Jewels. However, I felt compelled to push the boundaries and elevate the game beyond the ordinary. I initially envisioned a game that ascended through different levels, but after discussing it with the team lead, we collectively decided on a more ambitious direction: a game with diverse worlds and stages.

I took ownership of the game’s visual identity, personally crafting all six unique world backgrounds through extensive photo-manipulation. These surreal environments became a defining feature of the game, showcasing a range of styles and moods.

To further enhance the player experience, I suggested incorporating a portal inspired by Dr. Strange to seamlessly transition between these distinct worlds. Our animator expertly brought this concept to life, exceeding my expectations. I also worked closely with the sound designer to ensure the music complemented the “above the clouds” ambiance, creating a truly immersive experience for players.

I did the content writing/storytelling for all our games. I leave you with the introduction excerpt I wrote for this game’s game sheet:

“Fly up high to the floating world of Sky Jewels! Based from a beloved mobile game, this 4×5, 50 line slots brings you an above the clouds surreal experience featuring double-win wilds! And if you think you are high enough? Go even higher when you level up as you play through five magnificent world stages. This game has no way but up with free spins and triple-win stacked wilds. You’ll hear the angels sing in this medium volatility game. Cheers to the heavens and beyond!”
