A Year of Zhu

Maverick’s first Chinese New Year slot

In 2018, our team at Co7 embarked on our first official game for Maverick: A Year of Zhu. This was a significant milestone for us, as it was our first foray into game development, and we were all eager to learn and grow together.

I took the lead on the creative and art direction for A Year of Zhu, defining the graphics, theme, and visual effects. I also created the initial character sketch, which our talented designers then brought to life with their artistic magic.

Beyond the visuals, I recognized the importance of a user-friendly interface. I spearheaded the standardization of our game controls’ UX/UI, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience for players on both desktop and mobile versions. This initiative laid the foundation for a consistent and enjoyable user experience across all our future games.

I’m proud of what we accomplished with A Year of Zhu. It was a testament to our team’s collective effort and willingness to embrace new challenges. We successfully navigated the uncharted waters of game development, delivering a polished and entertaining product that delighted players.

I also did the content writing/storytelling for this game. I leave you with the introduction excerpt I wrote for its game sheet:

“It’s the Year of Zhu!!! Welcome the new year with a bang in this 3×5, 25 line slot. Join Zhuzhu, your philantropic yet spiritual Pig of the Earth element, as he searches for the Scroll of Wild and collects various lucky charms for your jubilating year! Boast with colorful and eye catching symbols, A Year of Zhu: Chinese New Year features free spins with random multipliers of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x! Undoubtedly the slot game to boost the new year for players who love medium volatility gaming.”
