Cloud 9 Surf Bliss

In 2019, our team was given the green light to develop a game inspired by the Philippines, specifically the beautiful island of Siargao, known for its surfing, beaches, and vibrant culture. I was excited to lead this project and infuse it with my own creative vision.

I wanted to push the boundaries of a typical beach-themed slot game by incorporating symbolism and local flavor. I envisioned a game that truly captured the essence of Siargao, so I named the main character Luna, drawing inspiration from the municipality of General Luna, a popular tourist destination on the island. The name also subtly alludes to the “perfect wave,” a renowned surfing spot in Siargao.

To guide our designers, I personally crafted the logo, ensuring it reflected the game’s overall theme and aesthetic. Our talented artists then brought the character and background to life with incredible detail and vibrancy.

During development, I felt the game needed an element of surprise. To achieve this, I suggested adding a mystic twist to the free game feature, transforming Luna into a mystical being. This concept resonated with the team, as Filipinos are known for their rich folklore and superstitious beliefs. Our animator expertly captured this magical transformation, creating a captivating experience.

To further enhance the game, I worked closely with our frontend developer to incorporate subtle animations that evoke the feeling of being underwater. We added a gentle swaying motion throughout the game, simulating the ocean currents, which added a unique layer of immersion.

I also collaborated closely with our sound designer to create a vibrant and relaxing soundscape that captures the laid-back atmosphere of Siargao. We carefully selected each musical element and sound effect to complement the visuals and enhance the overall player experience.

I did the content writing/storytelling for all our games. I leave you with the introduction excerpt I wrote for this game’s game sheet:

“Relax under the sun, chill along the beach, surf the highest waves or do them all! Welcome to Cloud 9 Surf Bliss and enjoy the summer all year round in this 4×5, 1024 ways slots.
